About PaswordFail.com
Purpose of PasswordFail.com is to give consumers and service providers the knowledge and tools they need to improve their own privacy and personal security. We will give password guideance for consumers, making sure you avoid potential disasters. We will additionally show how service providers can improve their security by encrypting passwords and implement alternative password recovery procedures.
We will maintain a database of public websites that stores and retreives user passwords in clear text, in an attempt to get attention to the service provider and make them change their practices. When a website changes their implementation to a more secure one, we will highlight this in our database with secure key-lock. We need Your help to make this work and we hope You will contact any provider you suspect to be storing passwords in clear text, we will provide you with email examples.
PasswordFail.com is not a verification service for the security of websites. We can't ensure that websites are secure just because they won't send you original password by email. Password can still be stored in clear text, but the service will generate a new one if you loose the original one. Therefor always take precautions and always follow best practices for passwords.
PasswordFail.com is a non-profit initiative to help improve the privacy on online web services. PasswordFail.com was initiated June 2009 by Sondre Bjellås.
